birthday!

Tomorrow's the big day! 20. Bye Bye teenager. stoked.

Monday, February 22, 2010

really?

Dear CMU,

It is monday morning at 9:30. You are backing a cherry picker truck down margaret morrison street, reverse-beeps blaring. Why are you doing this?

Is it to hit down the icicles, which you have designated a danger to society? Why, then, did you build scaffolding over all the doors?

It seems as though you do not want to do actual work today. I understand, it IS monday after all...but really, playing with trucks and icicles was the best excuse you could come up with?

Do us all a favor, and just let the stupid icicles MELT.

Much love,

amy

finally

finally the weekend, and a lot of things to do this weekend. Luckily, most of my commitments are craft-related. I'm really stoked to have enough time to finally get some of the projects i've had on hold off my to-do list!

Quiz

Do you know what the part of a capital g that sets it apart from a C is called? You know, the little tail-y thing?

Take a good look.

G

It's called the 'Throat'. Why do you care? Because you care about me, and I have a quiz in Communication Design Fundamentals that covers the names of parts of letters, different font styles, and gestalt principles. 6:30. tonight. pray.

mondays.

Some days it seems like my to-do list is never-ending. Today is one of those days:

test at 9
class at 11:30
work at 6:30
cdf quiz tuesday
cog psych homework - sometime soon
IS test thursday
IS lab?
IS deliverable
digital portfolio....

But. that's enough whining. It'll all get done. Off to ace a test - decision making in clinical psychology.

finally the end

It's so lame, so cliche to say this, but i'm simply going to anyway. I. Hate. Valentine's. Day. One of my mom's co-workers has heartbreak associated to this made-up holiday, and because of such, I made valentines day "survivor" ribbons. Pretty much like the AIDS or Breast Cancer ones...only black. We all wore them with her, so she knew we all cared. I should have made them again this year; I could have used it.

Though, all in all, it wasn't a horrible day; i spent most of it studying.

Went to church at 6. A year and a half of college under my belt, and I still can't make it through mass without crying. I always get so homesick and miss mom during the service. Oh well.

knitting, then bed. another week on the horizon.

here's to a great one.

Quick post. Im heading to the library to finish the cog psych reading i DIDN'T do last night. Bah.

Not only is my dog the cutest thing on the face of the world, she's also a trooper--as you can see, we've got at least 3 feet of snow at home. Yet, she mans up and pees outside.

MORE blogging!

Okay, so it was my new year's resolution to start blogging, and i've caught blog fever! I will (hopefully) be doing a lot more of it in the coming weeks. I've been interested in working within the Admission Office as a blogger since I found out such a position existed!

Basically, what that means, is that this post has to be legit. And by that i mean, this is for all the marbles. haha.

So as you probably know, Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, and while i personally do not have a Valentine, i'm doing my best to spread the love of the season. Below: My Valentines in progress. I'm hand-stitching
hearts on each card. Inside will be a lottery ticket (I thought that would be a fun idea, and who knows, it could very well make someone's valentines day a whole lot more rewarding!), and some sort of dumb quote. I'm still working on the quote. we'll see what I come up with.

What i do know, is that instead of working on valentines, instead of even blogging, i should be reading chapter 3 in cog psych. I do, afterall, have a 5pt quiz on the reading tomorrow at 10:30am. I kind of just want to go to bed and do it in the morning. we'll see.

My roommate, Lydia, and I are best friends. I think it stems from the fact that we have the same core structure (values, ideals, lifestyle), but on the surface, we are quite opposite. Her desk is spotless. Mine is not only cluttered, but has started to reproduce and spread onto Lydia's desk. She arranges her clothes in her closet in the order in which she plans to wear them. Yes, that's right, if i opened lydia's closet right now, I could tell you what outfit she will wear next Tuesday, or the Monday after that. WELL, she wins. Tonight, i've become her. I'm excited to wear my 'valentines day outfit' so i've got it hung up in my closet all ready and waiting. Yes, I hate the holiday. No, i don't hate its cuteness.

Old Navy 'girls' collection. Why don't they make stuff this cute for adults? It forces me to shop in the kids department!

OKAY, OKAY...

homework time.

Puppy break.

I am GOING to make this sweater. Talk about precious:

I'm partial. I think Tillie is cuter. Then again, she doesn't pose well. Hopefully she'll be my valentine.

Day Three

And the snow continues. Over and over and over. We haven't had class this week yet, and we're expected to get between 8-12 inches by tomorrow morning. It's a great week to be a student, and I'm loving the free time.

Below: A photo by Ari Rubinstein. Empty streets and snowy everything.

snow

Last night I found myself landed in the snow from the outburst of a small snowball fight. When i got up, i realized my cell phone was missing. gave up looking for it; it was 2 am. This morning I come to find it's $599 for a new phone, but only $199 if you have the actual phone...so, 200 for a replacement, 600 for new. With a shovel and my oh-so-stubborn personality, I set out to find that cell phone, come hell or high water. 45 min later, sure enough. there it was. And even better? it still works. How? i have no blessed clue, but it sure was nice.

Below: a photo of the crevice I found my phone sitting in. We got about 16-18 inches of snow.

I'm too tired to write about buggy, so i'll save that for another day.

crazy day, but good overall.

Zebras

"Employment Opportunities Fair" Today. Here's to getting a summer internship. As one Steve Jobs once said:

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

Hopefully being a 'misfit' of Information Systems majors will help me in my search.
